High polygon realistic character creation
This is an overview of creating high polygon realistic 3D characters ( with a particular leaning toward the creation of the above model ). My inspiration for writing it, was that as a long time videogame artist used to working with real-time constraints, I wanted to learn high resolution modeling techniques, and I couldn’t really find all the info needed on the subject in one handy place. It’s a pretty barebones overview, since there is an entire books worth of material if everything were to be covered in serious detail. So I’m really talking about high level principles.
Making of Varga In MAYA
This is not a step-by-step tutorial. I will summarize the workflow I used for one of my characters with lots of images and some print-screens directly from the applications used (Maya/Mudbox/Photoshop, etc …), also at the end I will provide some info about tangent space normal maps so you could think of this tutorial as primarily normal mapping related stuff.
Making Of ‘Ronaldo Fenomeno’
I began with some sketches to design the style of the caricature. I did several roughs trying to understand and reflect Ronaldo’s character. Defining his appearance was a tricky step. In this Making Of I will show you the technique I use in order to obtain a realistic concept; in this case Ratman. It’s a pretty fast concepting technique, where the 3D sculpting process is done really quickly and the rendering of the final image is done completely in Photoshop, so in this article I will focus more on the 2D rendering process, using the technique of photobashing. This is when you blend various pictures on top of the rendered model.
Making of Gordon Ramsay – Caricature
Ever since I can remember I’ve always had a knack for drawing caricatures, they haven’t always been great but over the years I’ve managed to hone my skills a bit better and draw some pretty amusing stuff, mainly for friends and relatives, but these days it’s my passion, and with 2d or 3d at my finger tips I’m really up for creating any type of character.

Cheap Facial Motion Capture Video Tutorial
The purpose of this tutorial is to show that even a small studio can afford to use facial motion capture. As an animator in the computer games industry I have, on numerous occasions, been approached by the creative producer regarding the possibility of producing minutes upon minutes of lip-sync animation. Sadly the time frame has always been too tight to deliver a quality that I can personally be proud of. The technique presented in this tutorial is an attempt to bridge the gap between large quantities of lip-syncing and a tight time budget.

Making of Say Cheese
“Say Cheese” is the first of five projects that I created for my final term at the Gnomon School of Visual Effects. The class was Creature Construction, taught by Alex Alvarez. We were given two weeks to go from finding a concept to presenting a work as close to production quality as possible. The first week was dedicated to modeling/sculpting, and the second week was for texturing, lighting and rendering. This was in addition to the rest of my classes and working. Needless to say it was intense, but worth every minute. As they say, what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger!
